Recently, Zhejiang Dongyang City Hospital researchers published a paper aims to study the impact lotus extract on renal acute ischemia-reperfusion injury, and to explore its mechanism of action, provide a theoretical basis for future clinical application. Research indicates that lotus extract on acute renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, and its mechanism may be related to the anti-free radical damage and reduce the lipid peroxidation, anti-thrombosis. This article was published in 2014 on 09 "Chinese Traditional and Western Nephrology" on.

Selection of 30 healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: sham operation group (Sham group), ischemia-reperfusion injury group (RIRI group), lotus extract administration group (LE group). 24 h after reperfusion, rat serum malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), serum creatinine (Scr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), kidney tissue MDA content and glutathione peroxidase peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity, and the use of eye and light microscope sections and histopathological kidney tubules meter grading pathological changes.

And renal ischemia-reperfusion group compared to serum lotus extract administration group were significantly lower MDA, Scr, BUN content (P <0.01), increased (p <0.01) sod in serum, tubular count significantly lower points (p <0.01), lower (p <0.01) in renal tissue mda content, gshpx activity increased (p <0.01).
